Get Involved
Girls on the Run of Catawba Valley volunteers are a diverse group of dynamic women, including teachers, athletes, parents, and business people. You don't need to be a runner to be a role model or to help build this organization. All positions are volunteer based, and all volunteers must submit to a criminal background check. If you are interested please contact us and we will send you an e-mail with the next steps.
Girls on the Run Coach
Offers the most interaction with the incredible girls who participate in Girls on the Run. Each coach possesses great enthusiasm, strong character, and the joyful spirit necessary to serve girls effectively. All share the desire to work with girls from different races, cultures, and social and economic backgrounds. Each coach helps to prepare each girl for a healthy adolescence and adulthood. Coaches participate in a thorough screening and training process, which includes a detailed application, a criminal background check, and a list of references, before leading a Girls on the Run program. A number of coaches are trained and certified in CPR and First Aid. All head coaches must attend a 4 hour GOTR training session.
Open to women only. Requires a commitment of 2+ hours per week for 10 weeks. Coaches meet with their group twice a week for an hour. Each program has a minimum of two coaches at each lesson and coaches share the coaching responsibilities. Coaches also attend the season-end 5K. Race with the girls. Substitute coaching positions are also available for those that can not make the full coaching commitment. This coaching commitment must not be taken lightly. Consistency is extremely important to our girls, therefore you must be able to attend practices 2x a week for the entire season. We suggest if you anticipate missing more than two practices that you sign up to be a substitute.
Running Buddy Program
Be the inspiration to a young girl and help her cross the finish line of her first 5K. The job of a running buddy is to be by her side for this fun and exciting experience. That means running or walking at her pace, encouraging her to do her best, but also recognizing and respecting her limits. The girls do a practice 5K at their program site to gear up for the main event.
